Happiness is the state of being happy. Happiness is like jam. You can’t spread even a little without getting some on yourself. Do you know, Who is Aristotle? What was the purpose of happiness? How was the theory of happiness relate on our lives? Happiness is the meaning and the purpose of life, the whole aim and end of human existence.
There was an ancient greek philosopher and scientist living in Stagira, Greece named Aristotle. His parents are Phaestis and Nicomachus. His father Nicomachus named him Aristotle, which means “the best purpose”. He studied at Platonic Academy and he was one of the strongest advocates of a liberal arts education. He was a student of Plato who in turn studied under Socrates. He was the first to classify areas of human knowledge into distinct disciplines such as Mathematics, Biology, and Ethics. His contribution towards almost all subjects on earth and its influence makes him one of the most famous and top personalities of all time. His famous works was Nichomachean Ethics, where he presents a Theory of Happiness.
According to Aristotle, happiness is “supreme good”. A thing is best understood by looking at its end, purpose or goal. For him, understanding the distinctive function of a thing that one can understand its essence. Thus, our supreme good, or happiness, is to lead a life that enables us to use and develop our reason, and that is in accordance with reason. Unlike amusement or pleasure, which can also be enjoyed by animals, happiness is not a state but an activity. And like virtue or goodness, it is profound and enduring.
We, ourselves are experiencing happiness in our lives. I see myself as a happy person because happiness is a central purpose of human life and a goal on itself. Happiness depends on living in accordance with appropriate virtues. Because happiness and virtue tells us that the most important factor to achieve happiness is to have a good moral character what we called complete virtue. It helps us to realize that the goal of Ethics is to determine how best to achieve happiness. Friendship is one of the most important virtues in achieving the goal of happiness. My life is full of happy memories and in my past experiences. To the next generation, people experience happiness because it is important to one’s life and it is a emotion or feeling.
I conclude that happiness is the ultimate end and purpose of human existence. It is the final end or goal that encompasses the totality of one's life. It is not something that can be gained or lost in a few hours, like pleasurable sensations. It is more like the ultimate value of your life as lived up to this moment, measuring how well you have lived up to your full potential as a human being. Happiness depends on acquiring a moral character, where one displays the virtues of courage, generosity, justice, citizenship and friendship in one's life. I am looking forward that happiness is not out there, it’s in you. Happiness depends upon ourselves.
